Callanish Society is a small, grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to improving the emotional and spiritual health of our communities by assisting families with cancer, and their health care providers, to explore illness and/or death openly and consciously.

On Wednesday June 16th at 6:30PM The Spacious Heart, A benefit concert for the Callanish Society is taking place at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC.  Tickets are $75 and there will be a wine and cheese reception before the concert.  The concert features Lorna McGhee on flute, Joan Blackman on violin, Ariel Barnes on cello and Maryliz Smith on piano.  For more information please call the Callanish Society at 604-732-0633 or email at info@callanish.org

Audio Lava is excited to share with you their latest recording “Dark Hum Of The Butterfly” and invite you to come down to the Hennessey to celebrate the release of the album. This album has taken us over 5 years to complete and we are proud to be releasing it now.   “Dark Hum Of The Butterfly” has a number of tracks on the album that have been inspired by the imagery of rebirth and cocoon larva process in the butterfly life cycle as it relates to our own human experience of recovering from the blues/depression. Overall the intent of the album is meant to be uplifting and a celebration of new life.

MALCOLM AIKEN CD RELEASE CONCERT

A rising star on the west coast music scene, Malcolm Aiken is an exciting young trumpet player, bandleader and producer whose sound blends influences of jazz, soul, and latin music. This debut for TrebleFive Records, “Paper Star” showcases his original music and several intimate interpretations of jazz and classical standards. Supported by an all star cast of musicians, Malcolm presents his lyrical and smokey trumpet sound in a diverse selection of musical textures, combining strings, vibes, percussion and woodwinds.

APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR PEAK PERFORMANCE GRANT

The PEAK FM in Vancouver has launched their second PEAK Performance grant project and are excepting applications until April 30th. Year two of The PEAK Performance Project will see an increase of overall funding to B.C. artists from $275,000 to $315,000 in development cash awards and will see all Top 20 artists receive artist development funding. The 1st place artist will receive $100,500, 2nd is $75,000, 3rd is $50,000, 4th is $10,000, 5th is $5,000 and all 20 finalists will receive $3500 each in initial artists development funding.  The $5.29 million PEAK Performance Project is designed to educate, promote, develop and hopefully launch the careers of some of British Columbia’s top emerging artists. It also hopes to foster the province’s music industry and create a sense of community amongst music professionals.
